Another drive home from school and the only other thing active besides my attention to the road is my phone in the cupholder. As it’s buzzing with notifications from my social media platforms or texts from friends, it’s tempting to check them but it’s best I don’t. Sure it “only” takes a couple seconds to check them, but it only takes one distracted second for something to happen on the road. A second of distractive driving could take away all the seconds I would get to live. A second of laughter, happiness, or sleep. I plan to keep myself and others safe by not taking a second to look at my phone while driving. I pledge to not be a distracted driver because a second can be all the difference from the many seconds I could have.
